SUMMARY:Around Sacred Texts (2026)
DESCRIPTION:3-part series looking at common themes in texts that are sacred to people of Christianity\, Judaism and Islam\, with the hope of deepening our understanding of one another.  \nWednesdays 7-9pm | 22nd April\, 6th May & 20th May \nHow will these events be run? \nEach evening will be hosted at a different faith centre and details will be sent after signing up to the event. We strongly encourage attending all three evenings so that discussion groups remain the same throughout the series. \nThe events are being co-hosted by a member of each faith\, and all sacred texts will be checked by a trusted and learned leader. The themes for these evenings will be ‘Scripture’\, ‘Prophecy’\, and ‘Reconciliation with God (the role of sacrifice)’. \nEach text will be looked at in a different order each time\, and discussion around each text will be separate\, we will not be actively comparing each text. \nWe hope to have an equal number of representatives from each faith around each table\, or at least all three faiths represented around each table. \nAny refreshments provided will be kosher and halal. \nAll participants will need to have read and agreed to the Listening Spaces (Around Sacred Texts) Guidelines. \nPlease note: further details will follow booking confirmation. \nListening Spaces are events that facilitate face-to-face\, intentional listening and dialogue between people of different cultures\, races\, faiths\, social class and political opinions.

By reflecting on our own cultural influences\, and by seeking to understand those of others\, it helps to prepare people for cross-cultural experiences\, for working in multicultural teams and for living in today’s multicultural society. \n\n\nAt the end of this taster programme\, you will: \n\n\n\nUnderstand some different models for thinking about ‘culture’\nHave a better understanding of your own cultural influences\n\nThe training we received from Bridges was excellent. We might be able to call a family member\, or chat with others online or at work\, but what role do our neighbours play in helping us to live well? And what responsibility do we have to help others live well? \nJoin us at Wellspring Settlement immediately following the community meal for an evening of shared stories and perspectives as we discuss how we build a sense of responsibility and care for everyone in our neighbourhood. \nWhat to Expect: \nUp to 12 participants in a group discussion around the given topic\, guided by 2 facilitators who will help everyone to be heard and ensure respectful dialogue. DESCRIPTION:Come and listen to chosen segments from the Red Cross’ new podcast ‘Bridging Divides’ with us. \nEach session will last for 1.5 hours and will be structured and facilitated by one of the team\, based on content from an episode of the podcast. \nEach half hour podcast episode brings with it the opportunity to reflect and discuss how connection and division manifest in our own contexts and how we can start (or continue!) to approach this work. We will spend the session listening to chosen segments of the podcast\, using these as a starting point to delve deeper into the work of connection. Along the way\, we will inspire\, challenge\, and support each other and create our own community of peers. \nWe encourage you to attend as many of these sessions as possible so that we can create a network of familiar\, local faces interested in this work. Listening to each episode first is recommended but not essential. \nThese sessions are free but booking is essential as spaces are limited. Please follow the links to book through eventbrite.
