DESCRIPTION:Cultural Awareness: Discussing Culture at Work \nA free\, informal online workshop to gain confidence and skills discussing cultural difference across different contexts. \nThrough delivering inter-cultural training around Bristol over the past few years one thing has become clear: many of us feel uncertain when it comes to talking about culture. \n\nWhat are some of the strongest cultural influences in your own life?\nWhere should we draw the line with cultural relativity?\nWhen is it alright to ask someone where they are from?\nWhat is the difference between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation?\n\nFrom the personal to the academic\, there are many ways to engage with this topic. Our approach is not to tell you what’s right or wrong but to encourage healthy\, connected discussion that helps us all learn and expand our awareness of different perspectives and experience. After\, we’ll give you a digital version of our ‘Cultural Conversation Starter Deck’ to take back into your workplaces and lives so you can keep the conversation going. \nThis workshop will be conversation-based with prompts and light input to fuel our discussions.  Please come ready to get stuck in! \nFree\, registration essential. \nAbout | This event forms part of our 2026 Cultural Training Lunch and Learn series. Join us for an evening of storytelling\, conversation and poetry featuring Bristol Poet Laureate Sukina Noor and restorative poet Leeza Awojobi. This is an invitation to share in food which nourishes the body and soul\, exchange meaningful ideas and leave feeling energised for the wellbeing of your community. \nAt Bridges for Communities\, we love all things collective and have recently been thinking about the phrase ‘It takes a Village‘. We know it takes a village\, but how to sustain one? This peace feast builds on a conversation we’ve been having in a more creative way. It explores the complex tension between the needs of the individual and the collective. It brings together storytelling and collaboration in a way which suggests rather than dictates\, opening up fresh pathways for engaging across difference. This is a chance to connect with neighbours\, share a delicious meal and hear from Özcan Ates\, singer and king of the bağlama\, from Anatolia. \nWe’ll be thinking about recipes which shape us\, and how they create new opportunities for sharing in our neighbourhoods. Come prepared to share the name of a dish or recipe that is meaningful for you. It could be meaningful because of who taught it to you\, or because it reminds you of somewhere special. To keep the fun\, keep it simple. 5 ingredients is ideal and you don’t have to add precise measurements.
