Crossing Divides with Imam Adam Kelwick

Last summer, violent disorder swept across the UK, fuelled by misinformation and the tragedy that took place in Southport. In the midst of this, a remarkable story emerged from Liverpool where one mosque community had responded to the violence by inviting protestors to share food with them.

A year on, Dan Green caught up with Imam Adam Kelwick to ask why they had responded in this way, what had happened since, and for Adam’s practical tips on how to approach difficult conversations with people who hold very different views.

How should we approach difficult conversations, especially with people we know have very different views to our own?

We put this question to Imam Adam Kelwick, who last summer led his mosque community in Liverpool to engage with protestors who had gathered outside their mosque, inviting them for food and conversation, and eventually even forming some lasting relationships.
