Join Our Board

Join Us as a Trustee to Help Create Kinder, Fairer and More Welcoming Communities

We’re seeking a number of new Trustees to help guide and support our Board in making sound, informed decisions about the work that we do with communities across Bristol.

You will be providing strategic support to a committed group of staff and volunteers and be part of a leading organisation making positive change.  You will gain valuable experience in the charity sector and have the opportunity to use your skills and your experience while playing a vital role in guiding our organisation.

What We’re Looking For

We believe our board should reflect the diverse communities we serve. We are looking to strengthen our Board with Trustees who bring one or more of the following areas of experience or expertise:

  • Experience in community work with a range of diverse communities in Bristol
  • Experience or understanding of topics related to social cohesion
  • Experience working in the arts to foster understanding between different communities
  • Experience of migration to the UK

What You’d Be Committing To

This is a voluntary role where you’ll be part of a supportive and collaborative Board.

The Board meets four times a year for approximately 2 hours, usually online during a weekday evening. You will receive the documents to review in advance.

There may be an occasional requirement for additional involvement, for example as part of a subcommittee or to help the Board or Management navigate through a particular challenge.

We ask for a 3-year commitment in order to have time to settle into the role and to contribute, with the option to continue longer if you wish to.

You will be reimbursed for travel and other expenses if they are required.

Requirements & Support

You don’t need to have been a Trustee before – we will provide an induction into your role, signpost you towards training that is available for new trustees, and offer support as you settle into the role.

Trustees must have an adequate level of English to be able to read the documents and participate in meetings.

We are committed to safeguarding all the children, young people and vulnerable adults that we come into contact with, so we have a number of steps you will need to complete before you can be appointed, including completing a DBS check. Please read our Safer Recruitment Policy below for full information, as well as the Self-Declaration and the Code of Conduct you’ll need to sign if you join the Board.

How to apply

The recruitment process will be a two-way process to make sure that you are the right fit for Bridges for Communities and that we are the right fit for you.

If you are excited by the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of people and communities across Bristol, we encourage you to express your interest in this role.

Please email our Managing Director dan.green@bridgesforcommunities.com with a short paragraph that mentions:

  • Your relevant experience
  • How your skills align with the role
  • Why you’re interested in becoming a Trustee of Bridges for Communities

Dan will pass on your expression of interest to the Chair of Trustees, Owen Lynch, who will then get in touch to arrange an informal meeting and discuss next steps.

Please get in touch if you wish to discuss anything further about the role.
